Welcome to the website for the local Reigate and Redhill Amnesty Group.
Background
The local group in Redhill and Reigate was established 25 years ago this June (2006) and has now worked hard for quarter of a century to improve human rights internationally. We are proud of what the local group has achieved so far and have great plans for its future.
In our Events we have details of our meetings, events and other activities. We are pleased to welcome any new members who wish to join us in promoting Amnesty's work, and to come along to our meetings and socials.
How to get involved
The aim of the local group is to support the work of the wider Amnesty International and UK organisations. There are three ways that you can get involved locally:
-
Awareness-raising - we need to ensure that Amnesty's work keeps a high profile. Locally we are planning to expand this work through having a series of events through the year, including speakers and socials, and through ensuring press coverage of these events, and of key Amnesty campaigns.
-
Letter-writing - it is really important to keep the pressure on in the fight against human rights abuse internationally. The Amnesty letter writing campaign makes abusers aware that they are being watched, puts pressure on governments to act and gives solidarity to those in difficult predictaments.
-
Fund-raising - we always need money to support the work of Amnesty, both locally and more widely. We are keen to get involved in some more innovative ideas to make this a fun activity in its own right (see our World Cup Sweepstake).
We are keen to welcome new people to our group and would be pleased to see you, whether you want to get involved in all of these activities, or if you just want to turn up in the pub after our meetings, have a casual chat and give us your ideas.
